Mommy Makeovers

Repeat after me: I cannot tighten loose tummy skin or lift my breasts with diet or exercise. While we all might say this is obvious, it is amazing how many women come to me near tears telling me how hard they have worked to recapture their pre-childbearing bodies with stringent diets and rigorous work-out schedules. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for a balanced controlled diet and a good exercise program, but women really beat themselves up over these issues and it is unfortunate. There is good news though.

A mommy makeover procedure performed by an experienced board certified plastic surgeon can provide you with a flat tummy and fuller better shaped breasts. The most important part of these procedures is to select a surgeon who listens carefully to your goals, examines you thoroughly and designs a surgical plan specific to your desired outcome, recovery time available and expectations. I rarely perform a mommy makeover the same way on two different patients.

The most common combination procedures performed are breast augmentation with or without a breast lift and a tummy tuck. Liposuction is also frequently added for the muffin top area in the low back and the thighs. There are several different types of breast implants available and different types of breast lifts. Your surgeon should discuss these options thoroughly with you.

Because most women pursuing these procedures have little ones at home, it is important to involve the family in planning. A tummy tuck for instance requires six weeks without lifting anything more than five pounds. All the in-and-out of the high chair, car seat, crib and stroller has to be handled by someone else during that time. If you are working outside the home, at least ten days off for recovery is recommended.

The results of a tummy tuck procedure and breast lift can be completely reversed with a subsequent pregnancy, so you want to make sure you are done with childbearing prior to your surgery. While you don’t have to lose all the baby weight prior to surgery, your results will be better if you are within about ten to fifteen pounds of goal weight. The procedure itself will commonly make you look as if you have lost ten to fifteen pounds.

The satisfaction ratings for these combination procedures are exceedingly high. If you are tired of struggling to regain the confidence you had prior to childbearing, seek a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon. Help is on the way!
