Some months ago, I received a call from a reporter who works for the New York Times asking me if I would contribute to an article she was writing about non-plastic surgeons performing cosmetic surgery. This topic is extremely important to me, as I feel patients are exposed to unnecessary risk when doctors who have not completed a plastic surgery residency pose as plastic surgeons. This happens much more commonly than most people are aware, and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) both have launched public service announcements to help protect the public.
